date of update:2024.07.26

OFFICE NAVI SINGAPORE operates an office search platform specializing in shared offices in Singapore.

Our "Singapore Office Guide Series" introduces office buildings for those interested in the building conditions in Singapore.

This time, we would like to introduce "Asia Square," a pioneer of SDGs.

Asia Square Overview and Directions

Asia Square consists of two towers, Tower 1 was completed in 2011 and Tower 2 in 2013.

Located in the financial district, it is a 2-minute walk from the Downtown MRT station and a 6-minute walk from the Marina Bay MRT station.

Asia Square is a highly functional office building with facilities such as the five-star hotel The Westin Singapore, a gym, a dry cleaning store, restaurants, and bars.

Sustainable architectural design features

Asia Square is known as a pioneer in sustainable architectural design.

It focuses on improving energy efficiency and livability through energy-saving equipment and green spaces.

It has received multiple awards, including the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award and LEED Platinum Certification.

◇ What is the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award (BCA Green Mark Platinum Champion Award)?
The BCA Green Mark Platinum Award is given to buildings with outstanding environmental performance based on criteria set by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore.

◇ What is LEED Platinum certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)?
Established by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED Platinum is the highest level of certification awarded to buildings rated as highly environmentally and energy efficient.

Here are some specific facilities and initiatives:

Rooftop power generation equipment

Asia Square features solar power generation and the first biodiesel power plant in the Central Business District (CBD) area.

It consumes about 35% less energy and 40% less water than a standard commercial building.

What is a bio-diesel generating plant?

Biodiesel generating plants use biodiesel fuel, such as vegetable oil or waste oil, to generate electricity.
This environmentally friendly method uses renewable resources and reduces carbon dioxide emissions compared to fossil fuels.

Facades (building facade design) and building management systems

The building’s façade is made of high-efficiency double glazing, contributing to heat shielding.

The entire building is equipped with an advanced Intelligent Building Management System and motion sensors that adjust lighting levels based on occupancy and usage.

Other initiatives include reusing water from air conditioning units and generating electricity from the movement of elevator cars.

The Cube

Asia Square emphasizes natural light with approximately 9,290 square meters of covered public space called “The Cube.”

This space is filled with natural light through randomly arranged skylights, making it a popular spot for office workers to gather for lunch and socializing.

The Cube also hosts events like farmers’ markets, adding a touch of fun to workdays.

Office Tower

Asia Square has 43-story Tower 1 and 46-story Tower 2.

Tower 2 offers several unique features, including floor-to-ceiling windows for ample natural light, inter-office stairs for easy collaboration between floors, a state-of-the-art air conditioning system, and a high-efficiency air purification system.

There is also a bicycle parking area for eco-friendly commutes.

Japanese-affiliated companies such as Mizuho Bank and Mitsui Electric Power Co., and renowned companies like Amazon, KPMG, and Australia’s Westpac Bank have offices here.

Hotel: The Westin Singapore

The Westin Singapore, located in Asia Square Tower 2, is the first hotel in Singapore to open within an office building.

Perfect for business trips, it offers ocean views overlooking Marina Bay, an outdoor infinity pool, and a gymnasium.

What is an infinity pool?
An infinity pool is designed to make the water surface blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, creating a stunning visual effect.

Shopping Complex

Asia Square features a spacious food court, Food Garden, seating approximately 600 people.

It offers a wide variety of Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and fast food options.

Though it can get crowded at lunchtime, the outdoor plaza provides an alternative spot to enjoy your meal.

PURE Fitness, one of the largest gyms in the CBD area, is also located in the building, perfect for those who value fitness.
